Barking Dogs

Barking dogs are a problem. You should always be a good neighbor and make the effort to see that your dog is not a huge nuisance with barking. There are many bark collars out there with differing ways to discourage the barking. Some collars use the static zap, some use a tone, some use a spray; pick one that you are comfortable with. You can have your dog de-barked by a vet. I would just encourage owners to address this problem. Most areas have barking ordinances, so you could get fined for repeated offences. We all know dogs bark, just don’t let it become a nuisance.

Take A Walk

We all need exercise, and walking is great. Your dog or puppy needs exercise as well. I have always enjoyed going for a walk with one of my dogs. It's just the two of you and what a great way to escape the stress of our busy lives. Plus you get outdoors and breathe some fresh air. It is not necessary to go for a long walk, or a run with your Saint Bernard friend. In fact, they prefer to meander along. I am very well suited for their pace. It is so nice to slow the world down a bit and enjoy the moment.

Find The Right Veterinarian

Finding the right vet for you large breed dog is quite a challenge. I recommend taking the time to do some screening. The last thing you need is to have a vet assigned to you who is specialized in miniature breeds, this has actually happened to me. A couple of things to look for, examining rooms that have tables that can be lowered to the floor so your large dog can be placed on it and secured, then raised for an examination. It is also helpful if the scales they have for weighing pets are ones they simply step up on. Take a tour of the facility, look at the examining rooms, the hospital area, and boarding facilities, find out if they do in-house lab work or if it is sent out. Check to see if they can do x-rays for large breeds. Find out which veterinarians are taking on more clients; arrange to talk with them briefly. You will want to know their operating hours. Are they open on weekends, what about holidays? Do they handle emergencies? It is important to find a veterinarian that you feel confident in their knowledge and experience and also that you feel comfortable with. Your pet’s reaction to them is a good barometer as to whether they are right for you.

St. Bernard Specialty Shows in Wisconsin

Entries close today for the Northern Illinois St. Bernard Club and the Greater Milwaukee St. Bernard Club, Inc. These two clubs will be hosting a total of four Saint Bernard Specialty Shows, Event Nos. 2010011801, 2010011802, 2010146801, and 2010146802. These Saint Bernard Specialty Shows will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010, and Saturday, April 10, 2010. The shows will be at the Cudahy Kennel Club Building, 3820 South Pennsylvania Ave., St. Francis Center, St. Francis, WI. There will be shows in the morning and the afternoon, on both Friday and Saturday.

North Texas St. Bernard Club

On Friday, March 26, 2010, the North Texas St. Bernard Club will host a Saint Bernard Specialty Show. It will be held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, 3400 Burnett-Tandy, Fort Worth, Texas. Useful Tips For Dogs

There are many uses for baking soda; it is great for cleaning your dog’s teeth. Take a small amount of baking soda and add enough water to make a paste. Apply the paste to your dog’s teeth. Most pet stores have toothbrushes for dogs and some of them work quite well. However you can simply apply the baking soda paste with a soft cloth. Middle Atlantic St. Bernard Club, Inc.

On Friday, March 19, 2010, and Saturday, March 20, 2010, the Middle Atlantic St. Bernard Club, Inc., will be hosting two Saint Bernard Specialty Shows. The shows will take place at York Interstate Fairgrounds, Rt. 74 Carlisle Ave., York, Pennsylvania. On Friday, Sharon Sakson will be judging and on Saturday, Paul Bodeving will be the judge. Raffle Held At SBCSC & OCSBF Shows

The Saint Bernard Club of Southern California and the Orange Coast Saint Bernard Fanciers held a raffle on Saturday, March 6, 2010; to earn money for their clubs. They had a very diverse and large amount of Saint Bernard items.

The Saint Bernard Club of Southern California had everything ready for the Conformation Competition to begin on March 5, 2010. Top photo shows the club banner, middle photo shows the First, Second, Third, and Fourth winning stations, and the final photo shows the award ribbons, trophies, and engraved towels for winners. The engraved towels were made by Kathy Dees, very nice!

Best of Breed Competition

Best of Breed Competition on March 5, 2010. CH Alta Vista's Billion Kilowatt, CD won this competition. Congratulations to Thomas & Viola Brown and Robert Bonito, Esq., Kilo's owners. Erin Hines once again did a fantastic job handling Kilo in the ring.

Daylight Savings Times

Daylight saving times begins this weekend, so we will have one less hour for our weekend fun. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour, when you go to bed tonight, Saturday, March 13th, 2010.

The Saint Bernard Club of Southern California and the Orange Coast Saint Bernard Fanciers, put on a very nice group of Specialty Shows last weekend. CH Alta Vista's Billion Kilowatt, CD, won Best of Breed on March 5th, and on the March 6th, morning and afternoon shows. On Sunday, March 7th, CH Summerlyn's Lucius WP, won Best of Breed.
