Ground Sloth

Pictured is an extinct Jefferson's Ground Sloth, check it out at the new elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. Did you know that all these re-created creatures went on quite a road trip before being placed on display at the San Diego Zoo? Well they did, they were transported on a flat-bed truck from Wisconsin. They drew quite a bit of attention along the way.

Extinct American Lion

The San Diego Zoo has re-created an extinct American Lion, children will love climbing on top.

Lots to see at new Elephant Exhibit

12,000 years ago these critters were found in Southern California: Black Bear, Mule Deer, Condor, Ground Sloth, Jaguar, Mountain Lion, Smilodon, Tapir, Flamingo, Large-Headed Llama, Capybara, Short-Faced Bear, American Lion, Columbian Mammoth, Cheetah, Dire Wolf, Camel, Giant Tortoise, Pronghorn, Bobcat, Bison, Horse, Grizzly Bear, and Teratorn.

The San Diego Zoo has even re-created some fossil remains in stone along the walkway of the new Elephant Exhibit. Pictured here are the remains of a long-horn bison and a horse leg bone.
