Senate Bill SB250 (Florez spaying/neutering)

The Senate Bill SB250 regarding spaying and neutering of dogs and cats was sent to the suspense file. This occurred because of the fiscal impact to the State of California and the tough economic times we are experiencing. We all know that down the road this issue will be re-visited. Those promoting the mandatory spaying/neutering program are a very well financed and organized group. I hope we are able to defeat them, government should not be controlling this sort of decision for us as individuals.

SB250 will be back VERY soon, maybe as early as next week when the Legislature reconvenes. We may have only two days' notice of its next hearing in front of the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

The bill's sponsor, Sen. Dean Florez, is termed out so he now wants to be California's next Lt. Governor. He had the good sense to vote against SB250's less vindictive precursor, AB1634, but now that he needs campaign contributions, he sold himself out to Judie Mancuso and her AR minions who are filling Florez's coffers. He has already raised more campaign contributions for this office than anyone else has ever done before. Mancuso, the woman behind SB250 and AB1634, is also contributing to Sen. Steinberg, President Pro Tem of the CA Senate, so every parliamentary trick in the book is being used to push this bill forward.

Florez got it out of the Senate by promising amendments to Senators who objected to a lot of its provisions. Florez has NOT made those amendments because, if he did, it would have to go back to the Senate for another vote.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool liberal Democrat but I am totally disgusted at the way that the leaders of the CA Democratic Party have sold themselves to promote a bill that will mean MORE animals will die in shelters and will be the beginning of the end of the breeding od good animals in this state.

Please go to http://saveourdogs.org and use their easy way to send a message to your Assemblyperson about SB250.
