One of the saddest things about the larger breeds of dogs is that their lifespan is quite short.  The average for the Saint Bernard breed ranges from 8 years to 10 years.  Yes, there are some who live longer but they are the exception.  The same is true for those who die younger.  It is one of the hardest things to deal with in owning the large breed dogs.
