1. Consider an older dog - Puppies really are not for everyone. You may find that an older dog is a better fit for your lifestyle and schedule. Contact the rescue organizations for the breed or breeds you are looking at. In economic times like these, they have lots of dogs that need permanent homes.

1. Choose a Breed -Do the research to find the breeds that will fit the profile you have created. Look on the internet, go to a dog show, talk to your family, neighbors, friends. All of this will help narrow down the list of dogs.

1. Make a list - Put on it what qualities you want in a dog. For instance you should consider size, energy level, grooming requirements, and temperament of a dog. Do you have children? Do you live in a home or apartment? Do you have a yard or park nearby? Do you want a lap dog or a guard dog? Do you have the extra money for a dog? These are just a few things you should look into before getting your dog.

Canine Good Citizenship

The Canine Good Citizenship started in 1989; this program recognizes those dogs who exhibit good manners at home and in their community. This program is often used as the first step in a training program for dogs. After receiving the CGC many dogs go on to train and compete in obedience, rally, and other performance events.

New Jersey Saint Bernard Specialty Show

The Northern New Jersey Saint Bernard Club, Inc., is hosting a Specialty Show today and tomorrow. The location for the shows are Sussex County Farm & Horseshow Grounds, Plains Rd., Augusta, New Jersey. Mrs. Carole A. Wilson will be the judge today, Friday. Saint Bernard Specialty Show

The Willamette Valley Saint Bernard Club, Inc., will be hosting two Saint Bernard Specialty Shows today, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The shows will be held at the Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center, 2050-2060 North Marine Dr., Portland, Oregon. Mrs. Terry B. Carter and Mr. Jack A. Mulligan will be their conformation judges. Saint Bernard Club of Southern Oregon May 2010

The Saint Bernard Club of Southern Oregon recently held Specialty Shows in May 2010. They had a Luau Theme, with lots of fun activities. Their Specialty Shows were dedicated to the memory of Jack Landgraf. The trophies that were awarded were all handcrafted with the Luau theme.
