Have you heard of the wagometer? It was developed by Dr. Roger Mugford from the UK. The device fits on a dog's back with sensors attached to their tail. Supposedly it can analyze speed, direction, and arc of a dog's tail. According to Dr. Mugford a happy dog's tail has a wide horizontal wag; a dangerous dog ready to attack is one where the tail is held high and there is only movement at the tip.
