Virginia State Dog - American Foxhound

In 1966, the American Foxhound became the state dog for Virginia.  The breed has been around since colonial times; the landed gentry at that time bred them simply for the sport of fox hunting.  George Washington, our first President owned and bred American Foxhounds.
