Today is Earth Day!

BRANDYKEGS hopes you will be able to spend some time outside today. It is a good time for all of us to reflect on our environment. I know a lot of people plant trees today, or plant some flowers in their yards. We can also put trash in appropriate receptacles, not discard it on the roadside. Next time you are out shopping, plan ahead and park in a centralized area and walk to the different stores. At this point all of us should be recycling, most rubbish service companies have made it easy for us by providing different receptacles for sorting all of it. Don't forget to pick up after your dog, more and more people are doing this. Keep up the good work!

Quality Dog Food

In these tough economic times we are all watching how we spend our dollars. The top name brand quality dog foods have become incredibly expensive. Some have even lowered the amount of dog food going from forty pound bags down to thirty-five pound bags. If you have a large breed dog or dogs like Saint Bernards thirty-five pound bags go quickly. Those of us with the larger breed would prefer larger bags not smaller. I have kept our Saints on the name brand quality dog food, their health and nutrition are very important to me.

Here in this house - second stanza

Here in this house ...... (Author unknown, second stanza)

There will be an effort to communicate with
me on my level. I will be talked to and, even
if I don't understand, I can enjoy the warmth
of the words. I will be given a name so that
I may know who I am among many. My name
will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house ......

Here in this house - first stanza

Here in this house......

I will never know the loneliness I hear in
the barks of the other dogs 'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when
I wake my world will not have changed.
I will never know hunger, or the fear of
not knowing if I'll eat. I will not shiver
in the cold, or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's
coolness, and be allowed to smell all
that can reach my nose. My fur will shine,
and never be dirty or matted.
Here in this house......

Raised Feeders for Saint Bernards

I read an article in a recent Saint Fancier magazine about gastric dilatation (bloat, twisted stomache, gastric torsion). The article stated that feeding in a raised bowl increased the chances of GDV(gastric dilatation/vovulus. I would like some further information as to how this increases the chances. In the past, it was recommended to use raised feeders to avoid this same thing.
