Update on Program Flea Control

My last resource for purchasing the Program flea control ended in April.  It just does not appear that this product is coming back; especially when you can no longer find information on Novartis' site regarding the shut down of their plant.  As I stated in different posts on this blog; I had used this product for years and was very happy with it.  Since I can no longer purchase the product; I went in search of something else.

By an odd coincidence I was gathering up some junk mail for recycling when I noticed on the back of a pet catalog a flea and tick control collar that is supposed to last for 8 months.  It is called Seresto and the manufacturer is Bayer; it appears to be a relatively new product from Germany.  There is even a $20.00 rebate on the product till the end of 2013; maximum of 2 rebates per household.

I decided to give it a try; if it lasts for 8 months it will be a great value for the price for our household when compared to the price of the Program Flea control tablets. I have not noticed any side effects on my Saints from the collar so far; and I am keeping a close watch on this.  We don't have problems with ticks just fleas in our area; so far so good.    The only complaint I have so far is the length of the large collar is only 27 inches; which is fine for my female Saints but there is no way that is long enough for a male Saint.

I will post again later this summer on the performance of the Seresto collar.  I am optimistic that this will be a great replacement for the Program tablets.
