The Vizsla originated in Hungary; this is a short-coated hunter very similar in type to Pointers.  This is an old breed, etching of this breed have been found dating back to the 10th century.  The Vizsla was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1960.

The Sussex Spaniel is a very old breed; and pretty much looks the same today as it did centuries ago.  The Sussex Spaniel has a very unique golden liver coat; its body is long, low, and massive.  Did you know the Sussex Spaniel was one of the original nine breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club?  The long hair around the ears on this breed should receive regular grooming; they are also droolers.  The Sussex Spaniel was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1884.

The Spinone Italiano is Italy's all purpose hunting dog.  The breed is an excellent retriever and an experienced hunter on any type of terrain.  The Spinone Italiano's coat colors range from solid white, white and orange, orange roan(with or without white markings), white with brown markings, and brown roan(with or without white markings.)  The American Kennel Club recognized the Spinone Italiano in 2000.

The Pointer is a hard-driving hunting dog; they possess the stamina, courage, and desire to go.  Their coat colors range from liver, lemon, black, and orange; this is either a solid color or a combination with white.  Did you know that Pointers acquire their hunting instinct when they are only 2 months old?  The Pointer was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1884.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is the smallest of the retrievers.  They utilize a playful action along the shore of retrieving a ball or stick; ducks are aroused by this activity drawing them in close where the hunter can then take aim.  The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2003.

The Irish Red and White Setter has been around Ireland since the 17th century.  Did you know because of the selective breeding for the solid red coat almost caused the extinction of the red and white setter?  The Irish Red and White Setter is strong, powerful, and athletic; and they also have a keen and intelligent attitude.  The American Kennel Club recognized the Irish Red and White Setter in 2009.

The Gordon Setter is sturdy and muscular; they may not be speedy but they make up for it with their strength and stamina.  This breed has a distinctive black and tan coat; making them visible in the fields and snow.  The Gordon Setter is an old breed dating back to 1620.  The American Kennel Club recognized the Gordon Setter in 1884.

The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular breeds of dogs in the United States.  It is easy to see why with their eager to please attitude and intelligence.  Not only is the Golden Retriever a good hunting companion; they are great guide, assistance, and search and rescue dogs as well.  They have a beautiful golden coat; ranging from light to dark.  The Golden Retriever was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1925.

The German Wirehaired Pointer is a multi-purpose hunting dog.  Their coat is water repellant and weather resistant; their outer coat is straight, harsh, wiry, and lays flat.  Their coat color must be liver and white.  The German Wirehaired Pointer has a distinctive face; giving them an almost human looking quality.  Just look at that wonderful moustache and you can't help but smile.  The German Wirehaired Pointer was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1959.

The Field Spaniel has the characteristics of being level-headed and persevering.  The Field Spaniel does well in heavy cover and water.  Did you know the Field Spaniel is one of the most rarest spaniel breeds, they almost went extinct?  Their coat colors range from black, liver, or golden liver; some have tan points or white markings as well.  The Field Spaniel was  recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1894.

The English Springer Spaniel has the ability to keep going and going on the hunt even in adverse conditions.  Their coat colors range from black or liver with white; blue or liver roan; and tricolor.  Did you know that English Springer Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels were originally born in the same litter?  The English Springer Spaniel was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1910.

The English Setter is similar in function to the Irish and Gordon Setters.  The English Setter has a beautiful feathered coat consisting of white with an intermingling of darker hairs; this coat coloring is called belton.  This breed is considered to be one of the oldest gun breed dogs.  The English Setter was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1884.

The Clumber Spaniel has a long and low body; they may not be as speedy as other sporting dogs; however they make up for it with their endurance.  Did you know that the Clumber Spaniel was one of the nine original breeds registered by the American Kennel Club?  The Clumber Spaniel is a mute hunter which allows him to get very close to his prey.  The American Kennel Club recognized the Clumber Spaniel in 1884.

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is the state dog of Maryland.  This Retriever has yellowish or amber eyes with a unique coat; the outer coat is harsh, short, and wavy; while the undercoat is dense, fine, and wooly.  This breed is well known for their prowess in rough icy waters.  The Chesapeake Bay Retriever was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1878.

The Boykin Spaniel is the state dog of South Carolina.  The Boykin Spaniel is a smaller breed; which allows the hunter to pick the dog and duck out of the water and place in their boat.  The Boykin Spaniel enjoys the company of children and other dogs.  The American Kennel Club recognized the Boykin Spaniel in 2009.

The American Water Spaniel is a very rare breed; and is also the state dog of Wisconsin.  This breed has a unique coat that is closely curled or has uniform waves also referred to as marcel.  The American Water Spaniel was developed in the Great Lakes area in the 1800's.  This breed has the distinction of being the first breed developed in the United States to hunt and retrieve from a boat.  The American Water Spaniel was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1940.
