The Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen; their name acutally is very descriptive of the breed. Petit means small; Bassett means low to the ground; Griffon means rough or wire-coated; and Vendeen refers to an area in France where the breed originated. The Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen is a scent hound. Their coat colors range from white with orange, lemon, black, sable, and markings that are tri-color or grizzle. The Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1990.
