The Scottish Deerhound is an alert sight hound. The hair on the body and neck is harsh and wiry; the hair on the head, breast, and belly is much softer. This is an old breed; in the past no one under the nobility of an earl could own them. The Scottish Deerhound was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1886.
